There is a huge and beautiful pear tree which grows just on the edge of Cubbington woods which is in direct line to be decimated by HS2. It lies right in its path. It was British tree of the year in 2015.
And when you’re up close it has beautiful intertwined branches that grow out.
It is now surrounded by two rings of fences to keep protesters from climbing in and attaching themselves to it. They have thinned out trees near by and very close to it. But supposedly the pear tree is safe for now, however HS2 says one thing and does another.
Things you can do to help save the ancient pear tree:
1. Sign the petition to save the ancient pear tree
2. Support Cubbington Action Group Against HS2
3. Write to the tree – send it your best wishes (it needs them)
It has become a symbol of the HS2 campaign as it is so famous and charismatic. It even has its own postcode.
